Transforming Organic Scraps into Paper

A hands-on workshop with guest artist Evelyn Hernández
$75

As part of CASA’s ongoing exploration of decay and rebirth, this workshop turns toward what we usually discard.
Spring unfolds, transformation begins to take visible form.

Day 2 of IMPRINT & FORM: A Weekend of Material Workshops invites us to ask: what is waste?
What remains after we consume? How can we archive, reshape, extend its life?

Join us for a Sunday afternoon paper making session using compostable organic scraps —
onion skins, corn husks, egg shells, floral clippings, and other everyday remnants.
A tactile process of pulping and reforming, we’ll rework what’s breaking down into handmade paper.

Evelyn will guide us through a gentle introduction to papermaking, with space to experiment, get your hands messy,
and witness transformation up close. You’ll walk away with your own handmade paper, the building blocks to continue
experimenting on your own, and new ways of thinking about waste, material, and making.

 Limited capacity. Advance reservations required.
TIckets are non-refundable.

MEET THE GUEST ARTIST

Evelyn Hernández is an artist whose practice moves between ceramic sculpture and earthen building,
grounded in a deep engagement with the land. Her work invites a closer, more reciprocal relationship with natural materials.

With a background in architecture & graphic design,
she stewards @earthenproject.la, a collaborative initiative working with artists, builders, and local communities
to develop accessible earthen building education — a response to the displacement from the Los Angeles fires.

This workshop offers a chance to learn from someone actively shaping how we build, create, and evolve in closer
dialogue with the land and each other.
